New Orleans, Louisiana
06 November 2013
Hosted By: the American Bar Association (ABA) Section of Labor and Employment Law
NERA was a sponsor of the annual conference of the ABA Section of Labor and Employment Law, held in New Orleans on 6-9 November 2013. On 7 November, NERA Vice President Dr. Stephanie Plancich participated in a panel discussion entitled "Gender Pay Disparity: 50 Years after the Equal Pay Act." Although passage of the Lilly Ledbetter Fair Pay Act in 2009 has renewed a focus on wage discrimination, policymakers are still debating a number of issues, including whether a gender pay disparity even exists, the best way to ensure pay equity, and whether current laws provide adequate safeguards against pay discrimination. Dr. Plancich and her co-panelists discussed the challenges associated with pursuing and defending pay discrimination claims, as well as the proposed Paycheck Fairness Act.
