NERA Vice President Dr. Stephanie Plancich has been invited to speak at this year's annual conference of the ABA Section of Labor and Employment Law, taking place in Los Angeles on 5-8 November. Dr. Plancich will join a panel session, entitled "Cutting Edge Issues in Age Discrimination and the Aging Workforce," which will focus on the effects that changing demographics are having on the US workforce. Employees age 50 and older represent almost a third of the US workforce today, and by 2018, the number of employees over 55 will increase by almost 30% in just one decade. The changing workforce has led to an increase in the number of age discrimination charges filed with the US Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC).

This panel will examine the effects of the aging US workforce. The panelists will discuss age discrimination cases since the 2009 Supreme Court decision in Gross v. FBL Financial Services Inc., recent regulations from the EEOC, and best practices in drafting and administering severance agreements and releases. Dr. Plancich will be joined by Eric S. Dreiband of Jones Day; Daniel B. Kohrman of AARP Foundation Litigation; and Cathy Ventrell-Monsees of the EEOC. Brenda Sutton-Wills of the California Teachers Association will moderate the discussion.
