NERA Associate Director Lorenz Wieshammer will give a presentation on the impact of elevated inflation and interest rates on energy network regulation at a meeting of the German Energy Forum in Leipzig, Germany, on 19 April 2023. Mr. Wieshammer will discuss challenges arising from the current market conditions and potential solutions.

The role of electricity and gas networks is changing in the ongoing decarbonization process, leading to significant investment needs. At the same time, regulatory parameters, such as cost of capital, reflect market conditions with a lag, leading to a discrepancy between network operators’ allowed revenues and actual costs. The German Energy Forum will convene a working group to discuss the regulatory framework from this perspective.
