Corporate Environmental Advisory and Decision-Making

NERA experts regularly provide advice on environmental matters to companies to help guide decision-making. Our advice includes cost-benefit analysis of environmental regulations and technologies, environmental regulatory compliance, and management of environmental risk.

Effective cost-benefit analysis is crucial in determining the best approach for meeting environmental regulatory requirements, deciding which technologies can achieve compliance and other goals most cost effectively, and deciding when to make environmental investments. NERA experts have extensive experience in performing cost-benefit and cost-effectiveness analyses for a wide range of industries and in areas ranging from air quality to hazardous waste.

NERA also assists companies in complying with air emissions, water quality, New Source Review, and numerous other environmental regulations. Our experts conduct analyses to determine what actions and levels of investment are necessary to achieve compliance, advise on how quickly compliance activities need to be undertaken, and provide guidance on ambiguous regulatory requirements. Our analyses help guide company decision-making and are important as a defense in potential regulatory enforcement actions or litigation.

Finally, with extensive experience in risk analysis and risk management techniques, NERA experts are well versed in modeling, analyzing, and communicating the effects of environmental risk. We typically aggregate these risks across multiple risk factors and business units, taking into account correlations and diversification effects to measure their combined effect on performance measures such as earnings-at-risk or cash-flow-at-risk. We can also assist clients in measuring individual risk exposures on a consistent basis. Once risk has been properly assessed and measured, our experts assist our clients in institutionalizing these methods as well as assist in bringing other best practice approaches to their daily operations.
