Industry Restructuring and Private Sector Participation

Industry Restructuring and Private Sector Participation

Over the past decade, substantial reforms have been introduced to the water and wastewater sectors worldwide. The reforms aim to create the right conditions to attract private investment to the industry, improve productivity and service levels and achieve wide-ranging tariff reforms. As each country faces unique issues, tackling them requires in-depth understanding and creative thinking.

NERA has advised policy makers, regulators, international agencies and water undertakers around the world on all aspects of industry restructuring and private sector participation. NERA's areas of expertise include:

  • De-merging or merging water and wastewater undertakers;
  • Evaluating private sector participation options;
  • Designing concession arrangements and contracts; and
  • Establishing or reforming the regulatory agency, with regard to the proper scope, accountability arrangements, and instruments of regulation.
