NERA Associate Director Dr. Jackie Chorn assisted L’Oréal USA in its successful BBB National Programs’ National Advertising Division (NAD) proceeding in which Johnson & Johnson Consumer Inc. (JJCI) challenged an advertising claim made about the CeraVe skincare brand by L’Oréal. In a reversal of its 2021 recommendation, the NAD concluded, with the support of Dr. Chorn’s survey evidence, that L’Oréal is justified in advertising CeraVe as the “#1 dermatologist-recommended skincare brand.”

Dr. Chorn used a novel survey methodology that the NAD noted “reliably captured dermatologists’ actual recommendation practices and…indicated that CeraVe is the clear leader in average weekly dermatologist recommendations.”
