New York City—NERA Economic Consulting is pleased to announce nine of its experts have been recognized as leading practitioners in arbitration by Who’s Who Legal (WWL) Arbitration Expert Witnesses 2023.

Who’s Who Legal: Arbitration 2023 singles out arbitration lawyers and expert witnesses renowned for their expertise in resolving complex international disputes. WWL’s research, along with nominations from peers and clients, identified nine NERA experts as leaders in their field with expertise in commercial and investor-state disputes.

Six NERA experts were included in the Expert Witness section:

  • Julie M. Carey, Managing Director and Co-leader of NERA’s International Arbitration Initiative, was described by her clients as having “an excellent understanding of the issues on a case” and being a “highly credible witness.”
  • Dr. Christian Dippon, Managing Director, was described as an expert who is “very intelligent and able to explain complicated economic theories to lawyers.”
  • Dr. Fabrizio Hernández, Managing Director, was recognized as a “true expert on his subject matter” with “the ability to convey his understandings in easy-to-understand terms.”
  • Dr. Richard Hern, Managing Director and Co-leader of the International Arbitration Initiative, was identified as “one of the absolute best damages and valuation experts” and a “very experienced economist.”
  • Dr. Jeff D. Makholm, Managing Director, was described by his clients as “a top-tier economic consultant” who is “great for claims in the energy industry.”
  • Robert Patton, Director, was described as an expert who “is analytically very strong, writes well, and handles questions very well” and also “considers creative options that may be helpful to the client’s position.”

In addition, three NERA experts were included in WWL’s Future Leaders series as market leaders of the future and the top of their generation in international arbitration:

  • George Anstey, Managing Director, was identified as having “an exceptional ability to make complex economic matters clear and understandable,” especially in “investment arbitration.”
  • Tomas Haug, Managing Director, was quoted as “one of the leading arbitrators in the German market.”
  • Marco Schönborn, Associate Director, was described as an expert with “a high level of mental agility, which distinguishes him as an expert” and the “ability to explain the most complex economic issues while keeping attention to detail.”
