NERA administered a procurement event to purchase renewable energy credits (RECs) from new utility-scale solar projects, utility-scale wind projects, brownfield sited photovoltaic projects, and certain hydropower projects on behalf of the Illinois Power Agency (IPA). The RECs are for the portfolios of Ameren Illinois Company (AIC), Commonwealth Edison Company (ComEd), and MidAmerican Energy Company (MEC).

On 24 June 2026, the Illinois Commerce Commission approved the results of the procurement event to support the development of 1,550 MW of new renewable energy generation: three new utility-scale wind projects (800 MW), one new hydropower project (10.26 MW), and four new utility-scale solar projects (740 MW).
