The Center for Research in Regulated Industries (CRRI) at Rutgers University held its annual Western conference in Monterey, California on 27-29 June 2012. Several members of NERA's Energy, Environment, and Network Industries (EEN) Practice participated. On 28 June, Vice President Amparo Nieto took part in a panel session focusing on demand response issues. Ms. Nieto presented "Making Sense of Demand Response and its Role within Wholesale Energy and Capacity Markets." Later that day, Affiliated Consultant Mike King and Vice Presidents Scott Bloomberg, Dr. Paul Bernstein, and Dr. Sugandha D. Tuladhar participated in a session on renewables. They delivered a presentation entitled "Impacts of Renewable Energy Subsidies on Energy Use and Welfare." Finally, on 29 June, Affiliated Academic Dr. Karl McDermott and Affiliated Consultant Dr. Carl Peterson presented "Testing Alternative Theories of Capital Structure: The Case of the Electric Utility Industry" in a session examining cost of capital issues.
