NERA Vice President Dr. Timothy Watts was invited to give a presentation to the New York City Bar Association’s Antitrust and Trade Regulation Committee. The presentation, titled “Dollar Store Wars: the Use of GUPPIs in Retail Transactions” described NERA’s work in the merger between Dollar Tree and Family Dollar. Dr. Watts also discussed how NERA worked with economists at the Federal Trade Commission to apply a tool known as the Gross Upward Pricing Pressure Index (GUPPI) in this transaction as well as the implications of the FTC Commissioners’ recent statements on GUPPI analysis for future transactions.
