Consultant Dr. Emily Walden spoke at the New York State Bar Association Antitrust Section Executive Committee meeting on 17 April 2019.

Dr. Walden provided an overview of the economic theory of vertical mergers and its application to healthcare mergers, in particular the acquisition of physician practices by health systems, as well as the use of merger retrospectives in prospective healthcare merger analysis.

Dr. Walden, along with Director Subbu Ramanarayanan, recently examined competition in the Massachusetts healthcare market as part of the merger of five Massachusetts health systems. Read about the situation, role, and result here.
