On 14 December, Managing Director Dr. Subbu Ramanarayanan and Associate Directors Dr. Andrew Stivers and Dr. Emily Walden will participate in the New York State Bar Association’s (NYSBA’s) Executive Committee Meeting in New York City.

During the meeting, the trio will deliver a presentation based on their recently published Competition Policy International (CPI) article, “Novel Privacy Concerns in Healthcare Antitrust.”

The paper examines key privacy issues and their implications for antitrust practitioners working in the healthcare industry, accounting for the rising importance and value of patient data in the market.

During their presentation, Dr. Ramanarayanan, Dr. Stivers, and Dr. Walden will also discuss:

  • How competition-related data is evaluated using conventional antitrust principles;
  • Consumer privacy concerns regarding mergers and other competition practices;
  • Four areas in which market structure and competition may have an impact on interests new to antitrust and different from the conventional examination of business assets as applied to data; and
  • How these issues might be studied in relation to the practice of healthcare and the possible parallels to antitrust.
