This Q1 2019 update extends analyses contained in the 29 January 2019 report “Recent Trends in Securities Class Action Litigation: 2018 Full-Year Review,” coauthored by NERA Senior Consultant Svetlana Starykh and former Senior Consultant Stefan Boettrich.

Early indications point to continued growth in new securities class actions, especially Rule 10b-5s and Section 11 and/or 12 cases. As in 2018, the size of such litigation has been substantial in early 2019. While settlement activity continues to be muted, average settlement amounts (excl. $1B+ settlements) and median settlement amounts have been relatively high over the early part of the year.

NERA has been analyzing trends in securities class actions for more than 25 years. Publications include annual reports and periodic analyses of topical securities litigation trends and issues.
