NERA Associate Director Hans-Martin Ihle will moderate two sessions at the upcoming 7th Sub-Sahara Spectrum Management Conference hosted by Forum Global in Cape Town, South Africa.
On 3 November at 10:05 am SAST, Mr. Ihle will moderate a panel discussion titled “Delivering a Spectrum Strategy that Works for Africa.” The discussion aims to provide an overview of key spectrum challenges and opportunities for the region and address spectrum targets in the short, medium, and long term to understand the best way to deliver spectrum strategy for Africa moving forward.
On 4 November at 9:00 am SAST, Mr. Ihle will moderate a second panel discussion titled “Bringing the Spectrum to Market—Developing a Blueprint for Effective Spectrum Pricing and Award Mechanisms in Africa.” Mr. Ihle will discuss how NERA supported the Independent Communications Authority of South Africa (ICASA) in the implementation of the 5G auction in South Africa earlier this year. The panel will then explore the elements regulators must consider in designing spectrum licenses and the options available to regulators in setting spectrum prices and designing award mechanisms to achieve a successful outcome.
