Large-scale mergers are planned in Japan's oil and steel industries and clearance from JFTC has become crucial in these kinds of mergers between companies that hold a large share of the market. However, it is not always simple and straightforward to know what needs to be done to obtain this clearance, even if the corporate merger guidelines are examined.

This seminar was aimed at those interested in merger reviews and, as well as touching on recent cases, it also examined matters from the perspective of economic analysis, which JFTC has highlighted in recent years. An explanation was also given on the aims of merger reviews and points that should be taken into account by the parties to a deal when dealing with JFTC from this perspective.
