On 2 July, NERA and DIS40, the initiative for young arbitration practitioners in Germany, will co-host an expert witness cross-examination workshop in NERA’s Berlin office. The workshop will provide individuals with an opportunity to present their cases before experienced arbitrators and engage in cross-examination with experts.

In this workshop, teams of two participants will act as counsel and work together with a NERA expert to analyze simulated international arbitration case materials and prepare their cross-examination strategy. On the day of the “hearing,” each team will deliver an opening statement that focuses on the expert opinions and cross-examine the opposing team’s expert in the presence of experienced arbitrators.

A team of NERA economists including Senior Consultant/Principal Niko Czaplicki, Director Dominik Hübler, Economic Analyst Philip vom Baur, and Research Officer Jonathan Schellenberg helped set up the mock case materials and will defend their economic analyses under cross-examination.
