Senior Managing Director Richard Marsden joined the PolicyTracker Spectrum Policy Podcast episode “The Future of Spectrum Auctions” with PolicyTracker Journalist Camilla Mina to discuss how spectrum auctions will evolve with the transition of mobile to 6G. Mr. Marsden expects that auctions will remain the norm for spectrum assignment until at least the mid-2030s, but there may be a greater emphasis on renewal of expiring spectrum licences renewals and more dramatic change could follow. Auction formats are unlikely to change radically even with the advent of 6G and, in the European Union, the Digital Networks Act. During this podcast, Mr. Marsden also discussed the shifting popularity of auction formats for spectrum allocation, the rise of satellite services, and the scope for more spectrum trading.
