NERA Senior Vice President Dr. Lawrence Wu participated in the annual meeting of the New York State Bar Association Antitrust Law Section in New York City on 28 January 2010. Dr. Wu took part in a panel discussion entitled "Current Antitrust issues in Healthcare: A New Dose of Competition or the Same Old Prescription?" along with Richard Feinstein, Director of the Bureau of Competition at the Federal Trade Commission (FTC), and Joshua Soven, Chief of the Litigation I Section of the Antitrust Division at the US Department of Justice (DOJ). The panel discussed a number of current issues in healthcare antitrust, including the FTC and DOJ's healthcare enforcement priorities for 2010; the implications of American Needle for healthcare joint ventures; and the antitrust agencies' approaches to consolidation in the health insurance, pharmaceutical, and medical device industries. Dr. Wu's comments focused on the implications of American Needle for healthcare joint ventures.
