The Romanian National Authority for Management and Regulation in Communications (ANCOM) hosted an international conference on radio spectrum strategies in Bucharest on 12 May 2011. This year, Romania plans to initiate strategies that would allow for the more efficient use of radio spectrum management and the allocation of new bands for BWA technologies. With this is mind, ANCOM invited an array of industry experts to share their experiences on the allocation of radio spectrum in the wireless communications sector at the European and global level. NERA Senior Vice President Richard Marsden delivered a keynote presentation and served as moderator for a roundtable discussion entitled "Contest Design for Licensing the 800/2600 MHz Bands -- A Regional Approach." The panel examined European trends in licensing 800/2600 MHz bands in order to develop a set of recommendations that could be applied to Romania and neighboring countries.
