Experience 

Jim Yin is a Consultant in NERA’s Regulatory Economics and International Arbitration Practices. He specialises in the finance and economics of regulated utilities, and economic assessment of damages and other valuation issues in the context of international arbitration. In the area of regulatory finance and economics, Mr Yin has advised regulators and utilities on various aspects of economic regulation, with a focus on cost of capital issues, financeability, financial and risk modelling, and regulatory framework design. He has also advised investors on regulatory due diligence assignments in the energy, water, and transport sectors in Europe. With respect to international arbitration, Mr Yin has been involved in assessing financial and economic issues arising in international commercial and investor-state disputes before ICC, ICSID, and UNCITRAL. His experience includes quantum of damages assessments, cost of capital and profitability assessment, and lost profits from construction delays. He graduated with distinction from the London School of Economics (LSE) with an MSc in finance and was the winner of the Antoine Faure-Grimaud Prize for best overall performance. Mr Yin also holds an MSc in economics from LSE and a BSc in chemical engineering and a BA in economics from Lafayette College in the United States. He is a certified Financial Risk Manager (FRM) and has passed all three levels of the Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) exams and the first level of the Chartered Alternative Investment Analyst (CAIA) exams.
