An expert competition economist with over 15 years of experience, Nicola Tosini has advised the merging parties in numerous merger reviews by the European Commission and national competition authorities. His notable experience includes Danfoss/Eaton Hydraulics, BASF/Solvay’s Polyamide business, Quaker/Houghton, IAG/Aer Lingus, Boston Scientific/Lumenis’ Global Surgical business, Atlas Copco/Geveke/LEWA, Lanxess/Emerald Kalama Chemical, Fujifilm/Hitachi’s Diagnostic Imaging business, Showa Denko/SGL, and Continental AG/Veyance Technologies.

In addition to merger reviews, Dr. Tosini has supported firms and their legal advisers in antitrust investigations, the litigation of damages, international arbitration, and public policy issues. He has acted as an expert witness in numerous antitrust damages proceedings before national courts, including collective proceedings before the Competition Appeal Tribunal in the UK.

Drawing on his case experience and academic training, Dr. Tosini has published in Competition Law & Policy Debate, Neue Zeitschrift für Kartellrecht, and the Journal of European Competition Law & Practice on issues that arise in the evaluation of horizontal and vertical horizontal mergers. One of his articles on the significance of innovation in merger assessment, published in Antitrust Magazine, was awarded Concurrences’ 2019 Antitrust Writing Award for Cross-Border Issues in the Business Articles category.

Dr. Tosini has participated in multiple panels discussing ex-post and ex-ante regulation of digital markets at the Centre for a Digital Society of the European University Institute. An article he wrote on this topic appeared in the Italian financial newspaper of record, Il Sole 24 Ore.

His experience spans a variety of industries including automotive parts, building materials, chemicals, consumer packaged goods, digital music services, electronics, fluid power systems, freight transport and forwarding, medical equipment, passenger air travel, pharmaceuticals, retail, and telecommunications.

During his graduate studies, Dr. Tosini was a research assistant in the Department of Economics and the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania, as well as at the Federal Reserve Bank of Philadelphia.
